And these are but the outer fringe of his works;
how faint the whisper we hear of him!
Who then can understand the thunder of his power?
(Job 26:14, NIV)

JOB 25-26

DAY 89: JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR

Focus Verse For Today: Job 26:14

Today, our journey through Job 25-26 contrasts Job’s friend Bildad’s view of God, with Job’s view of God. Are they worshiping the same God?

Take a few minutes to ask God for His understanding of Job 25-26. Now read Job 25-26 listening for what God may be sharing with you. Let’s journey!

Job 25-26: Bildad’s view of God is very selfish. God blesses those who live lives of strict obedience to God’s will. God curses those who do not. Bildad’s view of God takes away His loving magnificence and reduces Him to a pouting child, demanding His way regardless of the cost. Bildad overlooks that God, at creation, blessed man with a free will, which is totally inconsistent with who God is and Job’s view of God. Job’s view of God is awe and wonder. Job recognized that God created all, from nothing. Job briefly revels the magnificence of God’s creation. Job recognized that God knows what is going on in the realm of the dead. Job recognized that no mortal man can fully comprehend God. (Job 25:1-26:14)

Let’s take a look at our focus verse of the day:

And these are but the outer fringe of his works;
how faint the whisper we hear of him!
Who then can understand the thunder of his power?
(Job 26:14, NIV)

Job recognized that God created the entire world to be shared by and support the entire world. Bildad’s view of the world was a selfish view that promoted unbridled aspiration in serving God in man’s own ability to earn salvation. Bildad’s concept of earned salvation was not needed before the fall of man and, most certainly, was forever lost, if it ever existed, after the fall. Job knew he was dependent on a God that he may not ever fully understand; yet Job trusted God fully. Job recognized that he could not comprehend the enormity and complexity of God: Job knew God! Do you know God?
