Donte Thomas, Pennsylvania

March 11, 2014

Donte Thomas’ execution was scheduled for 7 pm EDT, on March 13, 2014, at State Correctional Institute Rockview in Rockview, Pennsylvania. His execution has been stayed by the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Thirty-six-year-old Donte is convicted of murdering 23-year-old Tyreese Gaymonn in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 3, 2006. Donte has spent the past six years on Pennsylvania’s death row.

On January 31, 2006, Donte Thomas met with Kareem Glass at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Philadelphia. Kareem was there awaiting trial for the murder of Tyreek Gaymon, which occurred on September 28, 2004. Witness to that murder was Tyreek’s cousin, Tyreese Gaymon a/k/a Tyreese Allen. Tyreese planned to testify against Kareem. Kareem told Thomas that he was concerned about Tyreese testifying.

Four days later, on February 3, 2006, around 10 am, Tyreese was with three other men, standing on a street corner. Thomas approaches the group, drew a gun, and began firing. Tyreese was hit four times on the left side of his chest. The injuries were fatal. The three men who witnessed the shooting of Tyreese all identified Thomas as the shooter.

Thomas was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to death on September 18, 2007.

Please pray for peace for the family of Tyreese. Please pray for strength for the family Donte Thomas. Please pray that Donte may come to find peace through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, if he has not already found one.
