Update: Monday, December 14, 2015 5:05 pm EST

Antyane Robinson is scheduled to be executed at 7 pm EST, on Friday, December 18, 2015, at the Rockview State Correctional Institute in Rockview, Pennsylvania. Forty-six-year-old Antyane is convicted of the murder of 23-year-old Rashawn Bass during the early morning hours of June 30, 1996, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Antyane has spent the last 18 years on Pennsylvania’s death row.

Antyane Robinson dated and had a sexual relationship Tara Hodge on and off again from early in 1993, until February 1995. Tara ended the relationship with Robinson when she discovered that he had another girlfriend. After not speaking for over a year, Robinson rekindled his sexual relationship with Tara on March 30, 1996. The two spent several nights together until Tara again ended in the relationship, by letter.

Tara had begun seeing Rashawn Bass on May 26, 1996. On June 29, 1996, Tara and Rashawn got together at her Carlisle, Pennsylvania apartment after she had finished working her 2 pm to 10 pm shift at Wal-Mart. The ordered and ate a pizza, after which, Rashawn took a shower.

Shortly after midnight, while Rashawn was in the shower, Robinson arrived at the apartment and was let in by Tara. Robinson was upset to discover that Tara was not alone. The two argued and Robinson requested that Tara ask Rashawn to leave. When Tara refused, Robinson pulled a gun from his pants. He pointed the gun at Tara and shot her in the head. Before losing consciousness, Tara heard three more shots.

When Tara awoke in a pool of her blood, she discover Rashawn dead in the shower. Tara dragged herself to her neighbor’s apartment, who called the police. Tara was taken to the hospital and later told police that Robinson had shot her and Rashawn. Rashawn had been shot seven times and died almost instantly.

Police arrest Robinson, who claimed that he was Joseph Smith. He alleged that he had been out of the state at the time of the murder.

This is Antyane Robinson’s fourth execution warrant, although the execution will likely be stayed. On Friday, February 13, 2015, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced a moratorium on executions in the state, until he receives and reviews a report on capital punishment in the state, a report which was ordered in 2011. In his announcement, he called the death penalty in Pennsylvania a "flawed system," "ineffective," "unjust," and "expensive." The governor will continue to issue stay of executions until all problems in the report are satisfactorily addressed. Read more about the announcement here.

Due to Governor’s Wolf’s decision, he has refused to sign any execution warrants. Antyane’s notice of execution was issued by Department of Corrections Secretary John Wentzel, which is in accordance with state law. State law requires the corrections secretary to issue an execution notice if the governor does not sign a warrant within a specific time frame.

Please pray for peace and healing for the family of Rashawn Bass. Please pray for strength for the family of Antyane. Please pray that if Antyane is innocent or lacks the competency to be executed that evidence will be presented prior to his execution. Please pray that Antyane will come to find peace through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, if he has not already found one.
