Robert Wayne Holsey was executed shortly before 11 pm EST, on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson, Georgia.  Forty-nine-year-old Robert was executed for the murder of 26-year-old Deputy Sheriff Will Robinson on December 17, 1995, in Milledgeville, Georgia.  Robert has spent the last 17 years of his life on death row in Georgia.

Robert had a history of criminal behavior, including two counts of aggravated assault.  Prior to serving time for those crimes, Robert worked at a local Pizza Hut.  According to Robert’s sister Angela, a former active-duty Marine, Robert performed poorly in school and was borderline mentally disabled.  As children, they were beat by their mother.  Additionally, Robert’s father was shot while his mother was pregnant with him.

Around 1:30 am, on December 17, 1995, Jet Food Store in Milledgeville, Georgia was robbed at gunpoint.  The clerk observed the robber leaving in a small, red automobile.  After he left, the clerk called the police and gave a description of the robber and his vehicle.

A short time later, Deputy Sheriff Will Robinson stopped a red Ford Probe at a nearby motel.  He radioed in the license plate number before approaching the vehicle.  The man in the vehicle, Robert Holsey, fired as Deputy Robinson approached the vehicle.  Deputy Robinson received a fatal head wound.  Several witnesses at the motel identified a man matching Holsey’s description as the shooter.

Police soon identified Holsey’s vehicle and gave chase, however, Holsey was able to avoid being apprehended.  Holsey’s girlfriend picked him up in a different vehicle, allowing him to abandon the one the police were looking for.  After driving around for a while, Holsey and his girlfriend returned to the location where he had abandoned his Ford Probe.

While Holsey was still in his girlfriend’s vehicle, police discovered the red Ford Probe.  Holsey eventually surrendered to the police.  He was convicted of robbing Jet Food Store and murdering Deputy Robinson.  He was sentenced to death of February 13, 1997.

Please pray for peace and healing for the family of Will Robinson.  Please pray for strength for the family of Robert.
