Monday, February 19, 2018, is the federal holiday often referred to as Presidents' Day.  But did you know that the holiday is officially called by the federal government Washington's Birthday?  George Washington's Birthday is on February 22, and it was first made a federal holiday in 1885.  In 1971, the holiday was moved to the third Monday of February as part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.  Interestingly, the third Monday of the month never actually falls on Washington's Birthday!  There are also three other former presidents born in February: Ronald Reagan, William Henry Harrison, and Abraham Lincoln.  Presidents Day never falls on any of their birthdays either!

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.  (1 Timothy 2:1-2, ESV)

Prayer for leaders - be they kings, queens, presidents, senators, representatives, judges, deacons, pastors, or someone else - is important.  They are in positions of leaderships and need our support.  We show our support through prayer.  We do not have to agree with everything they say and do, but we are instructed to pray for them.  Pray that they receive God's wisdom and act in a way and manner that is pleasing to Him.  Pray for God's protection and guidance.   Pray that they are open to receiving and enacting the will of the Lord.
