Sedrick D. Clayton was given an execution date of 7 pm CST, on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institute in Nashville, Tennessee. Sedrick has not completed all his appeals, meaning his execution will not be carried out. Thirty-five-year-old Sedrick is convicted of murdering 56-year-old Arithio Fisher, his 46-year-old wife Patricia Fisher, and their daughter 23-year-old Pashea Fisher, in South Memphis, Tennessee, on January 19, 2012. Sedrick has spent the last four years on death row in Tennessee.
Clayton did not have a prior criminal record. He dropped out of school after completing the ninth grade.
On January 19, 2012, A’Reco Fisher, son of Arithio and Patricia Fisher, was asleep on the couch in the living room of his parent’s home. His sister, Pashea also lived in the house with her four-year-old daugher, JC. During the early morning hours, Pashea’s boyfriend, and the father of JC, Sedrick Clayton, arrived at the residence. Pashea let Clayton into the house, as he did not have a key.
A’Reco was awakened by the couple arguing, although he did not clearly hear about what they were arguing. A’Reco then heard gunshots, which startled him, as the family did not own guns. A’Reco then saw Pashea walk down the hall and entered her parent’s bedroom, locking the door behind her. Clayton followed her and kicked down the door, while Pashea yelled at him to stop.
Clayton grabbed Pashea and dragged her towards the front of the house, by the living room. She yelled at A’Reco to call the police. Clayton threatened to kill Pashea and then shot her in the head. Clayton fled the house, taking JC with him and stealing Pashea’s car. A’Reco, who witnessed his sister being shot, called the police and attempted to help his family
Later that morning, Clayton turned himself into the police. Paesha and her father, Arithio, were dead by the time police arrived at the scene. Patrica was awake but unresponsive to verbal instructions. She was taken the hospital, where she died a short time later. All three victims had been shot multiple times.
When police interviewed Clayton to receive his statement, he confessed immediately, although he gave several different versions of the shooting. According the Clayton, he and Pashea were arguing over her being unfaithful. During one of their arguments, Arithio came out of the bedroom and knocked Clayton down, causing him to drop his gun. Clayton claims he feared for his life and began shooting when he regained his gun. Clayton also claims that Pashea was killed when the gun accidentally discharged after she grabbed him.
Prior to the trial, Clayton offered to plead guilty in exchange for serving three consecutive life sentences, without the possibility of parole. The offer was rejected by the Shelby County District Attorney. It took a 12-member jury two hours to agree that he should be sentenced to death for each murder. Clayton also later received an additional 21-year sentence for various other crimes in relation to the murders.
Please pray for peace and healing for the family of Arithio, Patrica, and Pashea. Please pray for strength for the family of Sedrick Clayton. Please pray that if Sedrick is innocent, lacks the competency to be executed, or should not be executed for any other reason, that evidence will be presented prior to his execution. Please pray that Sedrick may come to find peace through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, if he has not already.
