Patrick Ray Haney was scheduled to be executed on Monday, March 6, 2017, at the Rockview State Correctional Institute in Rockview, Pennsylvania.  His execution has been stayed.  Thirty-two-year-old Patrick is convicted of the murder of 4-year-old Trenton Lewis St. Clair, on September 13, 2011, in Point Marion, Pennsylvania.  Patrick has spent the last two years on death row in Pennsylvania.

Patrick Haney was living with Heather Louise Forsythe, and her 4-year-old child Trenton, in September of 2011.  On September 13, Patrick and Heather brought Trenton into a hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia.  According to the doctor, Trenton was obviously dead when he arrived.  Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.  Patrick claimed that Trenton was alive but become unresponsive at the hospital.

Trenton’s body was covered in bruises - some old and some new.  The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the abdomen.  The doctor also testified that Trenton had been beaten over the course of several weeks.  Patrick and Heather claimed that Trenton had fallen down the stairs, which resulted in his injuries.  Heather eventually told police that she had witnessed Patrick beating Trenton but did not stop Patrick because she was afraid of him.

Patrick was convicted of Trenton’s murder and sentenced to death.  Heather, in exchanged for testifying against Patrick and pleading guilty to child endangerment, was given a short prison sentence.

Patrick’s execution has been stayed by US District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.  He has not yet completed all his appeals.
