Commentary: Isaiah has warned the Israelites time and again of relying on other nations. God will take drastic action to get their attention by destroying any nation with they may have sought and alliance. When there is no nation left to turn to, then, perhaps, they will once again return to the Lord. Chapter 24 begins to hold a more worldview, as opposed to individuals cities, which had been the focus of Isaiah’s prophecies, although chapter 28 returns to warning cities, specifically the Assyrian invasion of Jerusalem.
