Context: Chapter 13 begins with Jesus explaining that the view many held regarding sin as punishment, the very same view held by Job's friends hundreds, if not thousands of years earlier, was incorrect. There is no hierarchy of sin.In God's eyes, all sin is equal and everyone is will die for their sin.We are to repent of our sin now, later may be too late.On the Sabbath, Jesus healed a woman and rebuked the Pharisees. With the parable of the mustard seed, Jesus taught that a little good, or a little bad can spread far.Jesus taught that people held an improper view of salvation.People wanted to know their "odds" at being saved - how good was good enough?Salvation does not come through works, nor is it limited to set amount. All who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and repent of their sins will be saved.Jesus wanted to protect the people of Israel, His children, just as a father would want to protect his children, but the people of Israel have rejected him.One of the most important parts of being a Christian is to meet the needs of others instead of ourselves.Jesus warns against giving honor to oneself. If we act with humility then greater honor will be bestowed upon us by others. We should not be concerned about social status, but focused on serving the Lord.In service to Jesus Christ, we are to consider how we can best serve Him.We should not take on a project for Him if we do not have the ability, spiritually, physically, or otherwise, to see it through unto the end. This can be difficult. If God is calling us, then He will provide a way, but we must ensure that what we are doing is because it is God's plan and not our own desire.
