Focus Verses For Today: Revelation 5:7-10

Today, we begin our journey through the book of Revelation. Revelation is the only book of prophecy in the New Testament. It is the last book of the Bible and foretells of events that will occur before, during, and after the return of Jesus Christ. This book of prophecy was given to the apostle John during his exile on the island of Patmos.

Ask the Lord for His understanding of Revelation 1-6. Read Revelation 1-6. Let’s journey!

RevelationRevelation 1-6: John receives a vision from Jesus Christ. John was given seven messages to send to seven churches, one in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. Each letter contained a warning and encouragement. John receives a vision of the throne room of Heaven. Only the Lamb who was slain is worthy to open the scroll, resulting in a joyous celebration. Six of the seven seals are opened. (Revelation 1:1-6:17)

Our focus verses for today:

7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9 And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
    and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”
(Revelation 5:7-10, NIV)

The sacrifice Jesus made, shedding His innocent blood so that we could be saved, was for everyone! In every corner of the earth! It is a sacrifice that will be praised throughout time. A sacrifice that will, eventually, cleanse the world of sin! Take some time and meditate on the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ. When was the last time you offered praise and thanks for His sacrifice?
