Oba Chandler Executed in Florida

The state of Florida executed Oba Chandler on November 15, 2011. Oba was pronounced dead at 4:25 pm local time, inside the execution chamber at the Florida State Prison in Raiford, Florida. Oba was 65 years of age. He was executed for the rape and murder of 36-year-old Joan “Jo” Rogers and her two children, 17-year-old Michelle Rogers and 14-year-old Christe Rogers.  The family, who was originally from Ohio and in Florida for vacation, was murdered on July 1, 1989, in Tampa. It took police several years before they identified Oba as the killer. Oba spent the last 17 years of his life on Florida’s death row.

Allegedly, Oba suffered from a traumatic childhood and was abused. As an adult, Oba sold drugs. While in prison, Oba earned his high school equivalency diploma and some college credits.
