Focus Verses For Today: Hebrews 4:12-13

Today, we begin our journey through the book of Hebrews by reading chapters 1-4.

Before reading Hebrews 1-4, pray for understanding of today’s reading. Read Hebrews 1-4. Let’s journey!

HebrewsHebrews 1-4: The book of Hebrews (whose author is uncertain) was written to a group of Jewish Christians, likely in Rome, facing persecution and trials and in danger of giving up and returning to the known and comforting worship of Jewish tradition. The author begins his letter by reaffirming the divinity of Jesus Christ, as well as His humanity, a requirement for salvation to be delivered. The readers are encouraged to hold strong to their faith, not to go the way of the faithless Israelites of old. Hold strong that we may, one day, enter eternal rest with the Lord. (Hebrews 1:1-4:16)

Our focus verse for today:

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
(Hebrews 4:12-13, NIV)

The word of God is the absolute truth, the final authority on any matter. There are no gray areas and it applies just as much today as it did the day it was written; it is eternal! It can pierce our soul, convict us of our sins, all of which God can see, for we can hide nothing from Him. Nothing! Yet we all try. What sin are you trying to hide? God can see it!
