Focus Verses For Today: Nehemiah 6:1-4

Our journey today continues through the book of Nehemiah.

Take a moment and pray, asking for understanding of today’s reading. Read Nehemiah 5-9. Let’s journey!

NehemiahNehemiah 5-9: Nehemiah considers the problem facing the Israelites and receives guidance. He focuses on the Lord and obeying the laws given to the Israelites through Moses. The Israelites faced opposition to continuing to rebuild. Nehemiah led the Israelites to complete the wall. The names of those who returned are again recorded because they are to be remembered. Nehemiah appointed men and women to specific positions in order to restore proper worship in the Temple. Ezra reads the Law of Moses. Up until this point, the Word of God had been at the center of Israel’s rebuilding. (Nehemiah 5:1-9:37)

Our focus verses for today:

When word came to Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab and the rest of our enemies that I had rebuilt the wall and not a gap was left in it—though up to that time I had not set the doors in the gates— 2 Sanballat and Geshem sent me this message: “Come, let us meet together in one of the villages on the plain of Ono.”
But they were scheming to harm me; 3 so I sent messengers to them with this reply: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?” 4 Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them the same answer.
(Nehemiah 6:1-4, NIV)

Distractions come in many shapes and forms, but never doubt that they come! Especially when serving the Lord! Nehemiah did not allow himself to be distracted. He was focused on doing as the Lord led him. Are there distractions in your life? Have you allowed them to lead you astray?
