Focus Verse For Today: 3 John 1:9
Today, our journey takes us through the entirety of 3 John. This letter is written by the Apostle John. This letter was likely written near the end of John’s life. John maintained his zeal for Christ throughout his life and is believed to be the longest-living eyewitness to Jesus Christ.
Before reading, stop and pray, asking that the Lord provide understanding of 3 John. Read 3 John. Let’s journey!
3 John: John commends his readers for the love they have shown to others. John warns against having a greater love of power and self than love of God. John warns that we must be careful who we look up to and be sure they are truly following the Lord. (3 John 1:1-1:14)
Our focus verse for today:
I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not welcome us.
(3 John 1:9, NIV)
Diotrephes serves as a warning and example to all. A reputed follower of Christ, with a love of being first, Diotrephes rejected and refused other men of God, for fear of losing his position and being overshadowed. A person with a whole heart for Christ, cares about the well-being of his flock, over personal position. At times, everyone has been like Diotrephes. Examine your life to determine when it was and what led you there. Have you repented?
