DAY 009: JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR

Our journey today continues through the book of Genesis. We continue following Adam and Eve and their descendants.

Before reading Genesis 4-7, pray for understanding of today’s reading. Read Genesis 4-7. Let’s journey!

Genesis, the first book of the Jewish Torah and of the Christian Old Testament, was written by Moses as revealed to him by God. As God reveals the beginning to Moses, we are able to understand that God is continually giving second chances; another chance to better ourselves and the world in which we live.

GenesisGenesis 4-7: In studying Chapters 4-7 it is obvious that the draw sin has on “Mankind” is very strong and deadly. Last week, we saw the draw of sin on Adam and Eve. Today we continue to look at the draw of sin – first through Cain, then his descendants. The first recorded murder in history is when Cain killed Able because Abel’s sacrifice was more pleasing to God. We have our first genealogy, that of Adam. Note that Cain is not included. Cain’s genealogy is listed separately. Sexual immorality is rampant and God’s created earth is overrun by violence. God’s wrath builds as He prepares to destroy all breathing life upon the earth. God shares His plan to continue to put an end to all people on the earth, except Noah and his family. The flood, which destroyed all living things that inhabited the dry lands, began.

Read chapters 4 through 7, and consider these questions: How can you see God’s forgiveness, and willingness to give second chances? Why does God continue to forgive?
