DAY 089: JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR
Today, our journey through Job 25-26 contrasts Job’s friend Bildad’s view of God, with Job’s view of God. Are they worshiping the same God?
Take a few minutes to ask God for His understanding of Job 25-26. Now read Job 25-26 listening for what God may be sharing with you. Let’s journey!
Job and his friends have each made assumptions about God, about how God rules, and about how justice in the world works. These assumptions are revealed throughout this book. Many of these assumptions continue to be held today!
Job 25-26: Bildad’s view of God is very selfish. God blesses those who live lives of strict obedience to God’s will. God curses those who do not. Bildad’s view of God takes away His loving magnificence and reduces Him to a pouting child, demanding His way regardless of the cost. Bildad overlooks that God, at creation, blessed man with free will, which is totally inconsistent with who God is and Job’s view of God. Job’s view of God is awe and wonder. Job recognized that God created all, from nothing. Job briefly revels the magnificence of God’s creation. Job recognized that God knows what is going on in the realm of the dead. Job recognized that no mortal man can fully comprehend God. (Job 25:1-26:14)
Read chapters 25 and 26, and ask yourself these questions: What assumptions about God and the way He rules are being made by Job? What assumptions about God and the way He rules are being made by Bildad? What assumptions have you made about God and the way He rules in your life?
