The state of Texas carried out the execution of Mark Anthony Stroman on July 20, 2011. Mark was pronounced dead at 8:53 pm local time inside the Walls Unit execution chamber at the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. Mark was 41 years of age. He was executed for the murder of 49-year-old Vasudev Patel, who was of Middle Eastern descent. The murders occurred on October 4, 2001, in Mesquite, Texas, in retaliation for the September 11, 2001, terror attacks. Mark lost his sister in the attack. Vasudev was not the first man Mark killed in retaliation. On September 15, 2001, Mark killed Waqar Hasan, and on September 21, 2001, Mark killed Raisuddin Bhuiuian, both of whom were also of Middle Eastern descent. Mark spent the last nine years of his life on Texas’ death row.
Mark admitted that he was a member of the Aryan Brotherhood. He had an extensive criminal history, beginning at the age of 12, and including convictions for burglary, robbery, theft, and credit card abuse. Mark served at least two prison terms. Mark dropped out of school after the eighth grade. Before his arrest, he worked as a baker and laborer.
Please pray for peace and healing for the families of Vasudev Patel, Waqar Hasan, Raisuddin Bhuiuian, and anyone else who may have been harmed by Mark’s crimes. Please pray for the family of Mark. As part of his final words, Mark expressed his faith in Jesus Christ.
