Paul Augustus Howell was executed by the state of Florida on February 26, 2014. He was pronounced dead at 6:32 pm local time, inside the execution chamber at the Florida State Penitentiary in Raiford. Paul was 48 years of age. He was executed for the murder of 35-year-old Police Trooper James “Jimmy” Herbert Fulford, Jr. on February 1, 1992. Trooper Jimmy was killed by an exploding pipe bomb along Interstate 10 heading toward Marianna.
Paul was born and raised in Spauldings, Claredon, Jamaica, until the age of 12, when his family immigrated to the United States. Paul received a Christian upbringing and actively served in the United States military, receiving an honorable discharge. He then married, had a child, and held a steady job before becoming involved in a Jamaican drug ring in Ft. Lauderdale. Before the explosion that killed Trooper Jimmy, Paul had been involved in another murder and was attempting to eliminate witnesses.
