Marcus Wellons, Georgia

Marcus A. Wellons was executed on June 17, 2014, by the state of Georgia. Marcus was pronounced dead at 11:56 pm local time, inside the execution chamber of the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson. He was 58 years of age. Marcus was executed for the murder of 15-year-old India Roberts on August 31, 1989, in Cobb County, Georgia, whom he kidnapped on her way to wait for her school bus.

As a child, Marcus was abused by his father. Marcus also used drugs and claimed he was mentally ill. Marcus previously worked as a psychiatric counselor, although he had recently been fired prior to the murder.
