Harry Mitts, Jr. was executed by the state of Ohio on September 25, 2013. Harry was pronounced dead at 10:39 am EDT, inside the execution chamber at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Mansfield, Ohio. Harry was 61 years of age. He was executed for the murder of 28-year-old John A. Bryant and 40-year-old Garfield Heights Police Sergeant Dennis Gilvar on August 14, 1994. Two other officers were also injured but survived.
As a child, Harry often took care of his younger siblings. Harry claims he was repeatedly beaten by his father as a child. Harry had graduated from Garfield Heights High School and attended one and one-half years of college, studying photojournalism. Harry served honorable in the Coast Guard for four years and was gainfully employed until he was arrested.

In his final words, Harry asked for forgiveness and encouraged the families of the victims to find salvation through Jesus Christ.
