Ohio executed Mark Wayne Wiles on April 18, 2012. Mark was pronounced dead at 10:42 am local time, inside the execution chamber at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Mansfield, Ohio. Mark was 49 years of age. He was convicted of and executed for the murder of 15-year-old Mark Klima, the son of Wiles’ employer. Wiles’ worked at a horse farm in Rootstown, Ohio. The murder occurred on August 7, 1985. Wiles stabbed Klima 24 times with a kitchen knife before robbing the home. Wiles then fled the state. He spent the last 26 years of his life on death row in Ohio.

Mark Wiles was abused during his childhood. He abused drugs and alcohol as an adult but was not under their influence at the time of the crime. Twelve days before the murder, Mark received a head injury, which he was medicating. Mark had previously been arrested for burglary.
