The state of Texas carried out the execution of Gayland Charles Bradford on June 1, 2011. Gayland was pronounced dead at 6:25 pm local time, inside the Walls Unit execution chamber at the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. Gayland was 42 years of age. He was executed for the murder of 29-year-old security guard Brian Edward Williams on December 29, 1988, during a robbery of a Dallas, Texas grocery store. Gayland spent the last 21 years of his life on Texas’ death row.
Gayland dropped out of school after the eighth grade and worked as a stocker and laborer before his arrest. He had previously been convicted of a robbery and was on parole at the time of the murder. Gayland also had other interactions with the police, as he was known for not obeying the law.
