Delaware executed Robert W. Jackson III, on July 29, 2011. Robert was pronounced dead at 12:12 am local time, inside the execution chamber at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna, Delaware. Robert was 38 years of age. He was executed for the April 3, 1992, robbery and murder of 47-year-old Elizabeth Girardi in Hockessin, Delaware. As part of his final words, Robert claimed that his co-conspirator Anthony Lachette was responsible for Elizabeth’s death. Anthony pled guilty to a lesser charge, testified against Robert, and was released in 1996. Robert spent the last 18 years of his life on Delaware’s death row.
Robert experienced an abusive family life growing up. He became addicted to drugs. On the night of the murder, Robert robbed Elizabeth’s home in order to obtain drug money. While in prison, Robert conspired to have a state witness murdered.
