Focus Verses For Today: Isaiah 66:22-24

Our journey today concludes the book of Isaiah, as we journey through chapters 62-66. It is the story of the restoration of Jerusalem and a people who are loyal to God. It is also the story of eliminating sin from the world. It is the story of punishment meted out to those who worship sin.

Take a few minutes to seek God’s guidance and understanding of Isaiah 62-66. Now read Isaiah 62-66. Let the journey begin!

IsaiahIsaiah 62-66: The final five chapters of Isaiah tell of the restoration of Jerusalem. They tell of God’s revulsion of sin. They tell of a Heaven that will be inhabited by all people of the world who follow God’s ways. They also tell of punishment for those who reject God and His ways. (Isaiah 62:1–66:24)

Our focus verses for today:

22“As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me,” declares the Lord, “so will your name and descendants endure. 23From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me,” says the Lord. 24“And they will go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”
(Isaiah 66:22-24, NIV)

Our focus verses for today are good news for those who love the Lord and follow His ways. Verse 24 describes the state of those who chose to challenge God’s authority over the world. Fundamentally, there are only a few choices a person can make about what they believe. Some choose to follow God and abide in His ways. Some claim to believe nothing at all. Some choose to follow idols of their own making or design. Some actually defy God, not challenging God’s existence, but challenging His ways as being fair. The Word of God, the Bible, only provides for one choice: follow God and His ways. Take a few moments to consider what you believe. Do you believe you are the potter shaping your own destiny? Do you believe you are the clay formed by God to follow Him in all His ways?
