Focus Verses For Today: Mark 6:54-56
Today our journey takes us to the book of Mark, specifically chapters 5-6. We find Jesus traveling about an area of no greater than 100 square miles, teaching the truth-the truth that was not being taught in the temple any longer.
Take some time to ask God to give you His understanding of Mark 5-6. Read Mark 5-6. Time to journey!
Mark 5-6: Jesus delivered a man from the bonds of satanic spirits, demons, through spiritual healing. Jesus destroyed the satanic spirits. Jesus revealed that He has authority over the spirits of darkness that roam the earth looking to destroy us. I Jesus heals a seriously ill woman and restores life to Jarius’ daughter. Jesus reveals His authority over illness and death. What do you think the people of that region were thinking? Jesus revealed His authority over satanic spirits, illness that attacks us throughout our lives, and authority over death. Jesus is revealing Himself as the Messiah, the Son of God. Jesus is rejected by the people of His hometown. Jesus sent the twelve disciples out to share the “Good News.” John the Baptist is beheaded by Herod. Jesus feeds the 5,000. Jesus walks on water. Jesus heals the sick. Jesus was rejected by His hometown because they couldn’t see beyond the carpenter’s boy – the illegitimate son of Joseph. Jesus sends His apostles out to share the “Good News”: Spiritual Healing. Jesus fed 5000 men, not including the women and children present, with 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread, and there were leftovers! Jesus has authority over all elements of the earth. Jesus walking on water revealed that Jesus has authority over all scientific laws. A mortal would have sunk. (Mark 5:1-6:56)
Our focus verse for today:
54As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus. 55They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.
(Mark 6:54-56, NIV)
Jesus begins to reveal Himself as the long-awaited Messiah. He demonstrates His authority over sin, sickness, death, and things like food while demonstrating His love and compassion for mankind, all while living life as a carnal man as He was(is) the Messiah, the Son of God, the King of Kings. Jesus revealed Himself to the fallen world. The people of Gennesaret recognized Him. Do you?
