Focus Verses For Today: Hebrews 10:24-25

Today, we continue our journey through the book of Hebrews. Jesus fulfilled the old covenant, giving way to the new covenant.

Before reading, stop and pray, asking that the Lord provide understanding of Hebrews 8-10. Read Hebrews 8-10. Let’s journey!

HebrewsHebrews 8-10: Jesus Christ is the ultimate high priest. Through Him a new covenant was established, eliminating the old. Jesus’ sacrifice is the reason animal sacrifices are no longer required. Jesus’ sacrifice is the reason we are able to directly confess our sins to the Lord, without going to a high priest. Jesus’ sacrifice is why we are able to be eternally saved. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice, the perfect sacrifice. Jesus’ sacrifice created a new covenant; we, and those who received this letter, were no longer bound by the covenant made in the Old Testament. It was an encouragement to those new in the faith to not abandon their beliefs but to hold fast to each other and remain strong in their faith. (Hebrews 8:1-10:39)

Our focus verses for today:

24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
(Hebrews 10:24-25, NIV)

The recipients of this letter were beginning to waver in their commitment to their faith in Jesus Christ. Here, the author is reminding them that they need to encourage each other! They need to spend time together in fellowship! They cannot remain alone! The same message holds true for us today. In order to increase our knowledge and understanding of the Lord, in order to continue to grow our relationship with God, in order to remain strong in our faith, we must surround ourselves with other believers. Today, many question if church is really a necessary part of being a Christian, they question if they really need it. Are they putting Christ first in their lives? Are you?
