Focus Verses For Today: Acts 17:11-12

Today, our journey through the book of Acts continues with Paul’s ongoing missionary work.

Ask the Lord for His understanding of Acts 17-18. Read Acts 17-18. Let’s journey!

ActsActs 17-18: Paul’s travels tend to follow a pattern: arrive in a city, speak in the synagogue, convert many, anger the Jews, and get run out of town. Paul eventually arrives in Corinth, where the Jews attempt to bring him up on charges to the proconsul of Achaia, Gallio. Gallio viewed the matter as a religious dispute that did not violate Roman law. His refusal to be involved, helped legitimize the early Christian church, providing some legal protections to Paul and other missionaries. Paul continues his mission, visiting both new and old places, strengthening, encouraging, and growing. (Acts 17:1-18:28)

Our focus verses for today:

11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. 12 As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.
(Acts 17:11-12, NIV)

The Berean Jews remain a good example. They show that not everyone will believe at first. Some may need to study, verify, and understand before accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior. They were open to receiving Paul’s message but continued to check that what Paul was saying was correct. We should do the same today. Go to church! Listen to the message! Then come home and study it on your own to ensure that your church leader is truly speaking from the Bible. Are they using verses in the correct context? Do the teachings align with the Bible? Do you rely on others to give you knowledge of the Bible? Or do you verify information independently?
