DAY 277: JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR
Today’s journey continues our study of Psalms. Both are psalms of praise. All of today’s psalms are part of a collection of psalms known as the Hallel, which are expressions of thanksgiving and joy for a divine redemption.
Take a moment and offer praise to the Lord. Then seek His wisdom for today’s reading. Read Psalms 117-118. Let’s journey!
As we journey through the fifth and final book of Psalms, remember that nearly every psalm can be classified as a psalm of Lament or a psalm of praise. A lament is a cry to the Lord, asking Him to do something, most often when we are in pain, confused, or angry. A psalm of praise is a prayer of joy and celebration, thanking the Lord for His work.
Psalms 117-118: The authors of today’s Psalms are not recorded. Psalm 117, is the shortest psalm recorded, only two verses. Psalm 118 reminds us that God’s love endures forever. (Psalms 117:1-118:29)
Read chapters 117-118 and ask yourself these questions: Are these psalms of lament or praise? How do you know? What does this psalm teach you about the Lord God? Take a moment and offer up to the Lord God at least one praise and one lament from your own life.
