DAY 103 JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR

Focus Verses For Today: Job 30:20-23

Job 29-30: Job reflects on his life before Satan attacked Job’s family, his health, and possessions. In his own mind, or so his reflections suggest, Job wanted for nothing in any aspect of his life. Job is in despair after Satan attacked his family, his health, and his possessions. Job believed that a righteous man, as he was, would never find himself in the station of life he was currently in. Job believed that God, in some way, was responsible for his predicament. Job had no way of knowing that Satan, not God, was responsible for this predicament. (Job 29:1-30:31)
Our focus verses for today:
“20I cry out to you, God, but you do not answer;
I stand up, but you merely look at me.
21You turn on me ruthlessly;
with the might of your hand you attack me.
22You snatch me up and drive me before the wind;
you toss me about in the storm.
23I know you will bring me down to death,
to the place appointed for all the living.
(Job 30:20-23, NIV)
Job was an old man by this time. He was anticipating closing his life sharing the benefits of his labor with his family, wife, children, and grandchildren. Satan killed his sons and daughters. His wife, if you recall, advised him earlier in the book of Job to curse God and die. Job doesn’t understand what is happening. What Job does know is that cursing God (rejecting Him) cannot resolve his problems. Think back to Satan’s conversation with God, Job 2:3-5:
3Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.”
4“Skin for skin!” Satan replied. “A man will give all he has for his own life. 5But now stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face.”
(Job 2:3-5, NIV)
God confirmed that Job was a righteous man and that He, God, allowed Satan to heap tragedy on Job’s life. Remember, up to this point, Satan killed Job’s children and took away his wealth. Job, even at the suggestion of his wife, (see Job 2:9) would not curse God. Satan had lost. As we journey through Job today, we find that God allowed Satan to inflict Job with many types of health afflictions and Job continued to praise, question, but never curse, God. Job knew God, he didn’t fully understand God – none of us do – but Job knew God. Are you seeking to know God?
