Billy Jack Crutsinger was executed by the state of Texas on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. He was pronounced dead at 6:40 pm CDT, inside the Walls Unit execution chamber at the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. Billy was 64 years of age. He was convicted of murdering 89-year-old Pearl “RD” Magouirk, and her 71-year-old daughter, Patricia “Pat” Syren, on April 6, 2003, in Fort Worth, Texas. Billy spent the last 15 years of his life on Texas’ death row.
Billy was born in Texas. He did not graduate high school, dropping out after 11th grade. Billy had previously been arrested and served time for injuring another person. Prior to his arrest, Billy worked as a laborer.
On April 6, 2003, Billy Crutsinger obtained entrance into the home where Patricia Syren lived with her mother Pearl “RD” Magouirka. Crutsinger used the pretense of being there to perform maintenance work to gain entrance. After entering the house, Crutsinger stabbed both women to death. He also stole several items from the home, including credit cards and Patricia’s Cadillac. The bodies of Patricia and Pearl were discovered two days later.
During the investigation, police discovered that Patricia’s credit card was being used at a bar in Galveston, Texas. With this information, police were able to identify Crutsinger as the suspect. Crutsinger was arrested for failing to identify himself and read his rights.
After being arrested, Crutsinger consented to a DNA sample. He eventually, confessed to the robbery and murder of Patricia and Pearl. Crutsinger also told police where additional evidence of the crime could be found.
During the trial, his wife and ex-wife testified that Crutsinger had several family members die. These included his new born daughter, his toddler son, his teenage son, his brother, his sister, and his father. Some died by accidents, while others were ill.
Crutsinger was tried and sentenced to death in October of 2003.
Please pray for peace and healing for the families of Patricia Syren and Pearl “RD” Magouirka. Please pray for strength for the family of Billy Crutsinger.
