Mississippi executed Gary Carl Simmons, Jr., on June 20, 2012. Gary was pronounced dead at 6:16 pm local time, inside the execution chamber at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman, Mississippi. Gary was 49 years of age. He was convicted and executed for murdering 21-year-old Jeffery Wolfe on August 11, 1996, inside Gary Simmons’ home. The murder was drug-related. During the crime, Jeffery’s girlfriend was also raped. Gary spent the last 14 years of his life on Mississippi’s death row.

Gary’s brother testified that Gary had a difficult childhood, and their father frequently beat Gary. Before being arrested, Gary worked several jobs. He was also a drug dealer.
