The state of Texas carried out the execution of Cleve Foster on September 25, 2012. Cleve was pronounced dead at 6:43 pm local time inside the Walls Unit execution chamber at the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. Cleve was 48 years of age. He was convicted and executed for the rape and murder of 28-year-old Nyanuer Gatluak “Mary” Pal on February 14, 2002, in Fort Worth, Texas. Cleve spent the last eight years of his life on death row in Texas.
As a child, Cleve experienced abuse and neglect. He was beaten with belts and tree branches by his father, who was an alcoholic. After graduating high school, Cleve joined the military and worked as a recruiter for a time. During that time, accusations were made that Cleve gave alcohol to underage recruits. He was also accused of having sexual relations with an underage potential recruit. Cleve was court-martialed for the accusations and denied the opportunity to re-enlist in the Army. After leaving the Army, Cleve worked as an oil field worker, a construction worker, and a laborer.
