Ohio executed Johnnie Roy Baston on March 10, 2011. Johnnie was pronounced dead at 10:30 am local time, inside the execution chamber at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Mansfield, Ohio. Johnnie was 37 years of age. He was executed for the robbery and murder of 53-year-old Chong Hoon Mah on March 21, 1994, in Toledo, Ohio. Johnnie spent the last 16 years of his life on Ohio’s death row.

Johnnie had little interaction with his parents while growing up, and his interactions with them were often unpleasant. As a juvenile, Johnnie spent time at the Ohio Youth Commission for multiple crimes. Before his arrest, he regularly attended church.

Please pray for peace and healing for the family of Chong Hoon Mah. Please pray for the family of Johnnie. As part of his final words, Johnnie expressed that he had repented of his sins, asked forgiveness, and would go to heaven.
