Andrew DeYoung Executed in Georgia
Andrew DeYoung, Georgia
The state of Georgia carried out the execution of Andrew Grant DeYoung on July 21, 2011. Andrew was pronounced dead at 8:04 pm local time inside the execution chamber at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson, Georgia. Andrew was 37 years of age. He was convicted and executed for murdering his 42-year-old father Gary Wayne DeYoung, his 41-year-old mother Kathryn DeYoung, and his 14-year-old sister Sarah DeYoung on June 14, 1993, in their Cobb County, Georgia home. Andrew also planned to kill his 16-year-old brother Nathan. However, Nathan escaped through a window and ran to a neighbor’s home. Andrew set out to kill his family in order to receive his inheritance. Andrew’s accomplice, David Michael Hagerty, received three concurrent life sentences. Andrew spent the last 16 years of his life on Georgia’s death row.
It appears Andrew had a relatively normal and stable childhood, although his parents may have been strict. Andrew was attending Kennesaw State University at the time of the murders and working as a manager at Burger King.
Please pray for peace and healing for the DeYoung family.
