The state of Texas carried out the execution of Humberto Leal Jr., a/k/a Humberto Leal Garcia, on July 7, 2011. Humberto was pronounced dead at 6:21 pm local time, inside the Walls Unit execution chamber at the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. Humberto was 38 years of age. He was executed for the abduction, rape, and murder of 16-year-old Adria Sauceda on May 21, 1994, in San Antonio, Texas. Humberto spent the last 16 years on Texas’ death row.

Humberto was born in Monterrey, Mexico. He illegally came to the United States at the age of two. He dropped out of school after the 8th grade and worked as a mechanic before his arrest. Although Humberto did not have a prior prison record, he had been previously accused of rape.
