Michael Webb Dies on Ohio Death Row Before July 19, 2023 Execution

Michael Webb was scheduled to be executed by the state of Ohio on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. He died on death row while awaiting his execution. Michael was 73 years of age. He was convicted and sentenced to death for murdering his three-year-old son Michael Patrick Webb in Goshen, Ohio. Michael spent the last 20 years of his life on death row in Ohio.

Michael Webb lived in Goshen, Ohio, along with his wife, Susan; two teenage daughters, Tami and Amy; and two sons, Charlie and Mikey.

Early during the mourning of November 21, 1990, Tami woke up smelling gasoline. Webb soon entered her basement bedroom saying he smelled gasoline. He also stated that he thought someone had “rigged” the house. He then went upstairs while Tami hid under her covers.

Shortly after Webb went upstairs, an explosion occurred on the main floor, causing a fire to break out. Tami and Amy were able to escape through the basement safely. The explosion threw Webb into the bathroom. He was able to escape through the bathroom window, although not without injuries. Susan and Charlie were sleeping in the master bedroom, while Mikey was in his own bedroom. Firefighters were able to rescue Susan and Charlie. Mikey died from smoke inhalation. He had crawled under his bed to escape the fire.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the fire was deliberately set. There were gasoline cans in front of the house and a trail leading to the main floor of the house. There was also an unlit trail of gasoline leading down to the basement. Gasoline was also discovered to have been poured on Tami’s and Amy’s beds.

Webb’s fingerprints were found on some of the gasoline containers. Webb was also discovered to be having an affair. He had promised his affair partner he would leave his wife. Throughout the past year, he also drained over $100,000 from his daughters’ trust accounts. Webb was named as the heir to the accounts, so their deaths would hide his actions.

Webb was convicted of murdering his son and attempting to murder his wife and other children. He was sentenced to death in 1991.

Webb died on death row on May 2, 2023, in Ohio while awaiting his execution. He was 73 years old.
