Focus Verses For Today: Zechariah 8:3-6

Today, we conclude our journey through the book of Zechariah. Zechariah reminds the Israelites that despite their exile in Babylon, God would fulfill the promises He had made to them and that His blessing would be upon them again.

Ask the Lord for His understanding of Zechariah 8-14. Read Zechariah 8-14. Let’s journey!

ZechariahZechariah 8-14: Our reading today begins with a reassuring message that the Lord has not abandoned the Israelites and that His promises will be fulfilled. Instruction is also provided on how the Israelites should behave. The remaining six chapters contain prophecies regarding the future of Israel, both the good and the bad. Zechariah ends with a vision regarding the future Kingdom of God. (Zechariah 8:1-14:21)

Our focus verse for today:

3 This is what the Lord says: “I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City, and the mountain of the Lord Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.”
4 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each of them with cane in hand because of their age. 5 The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.”
6 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “It may seem marvelous to the remnant of this people at that time, but will it seem marvelous to me?” declares the Lord Almighty.
(Zechariah 8:3-6, NIV)

Having experienced God’s judgment, delivered by the Babylonians, Israelites may have begun to fear that the Lord had abandoned them. This verse, and all of chapter 8, is a promise from the Lord. He has not forgotten them and they will be blessed once more. We all go through times in our lives when face difficulties and challenges. It may seem as if the Lord has abandoned us. He hasn’t! During those difficult times, examine your life. Is the Lord trying to teach you something?
