DAY 031: JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR

It is only the fifth week of our journey and we are about to complete the Book of Joshua! Joshua is about trusting God unconditionally; doing as directed and the fulfillment of God’s promise to His people, the children of Israel. God pledged them the promised land, and He gave it over to them.

Before we begin our journey today take a few moments to pray that God will bless you with an understanding of His word. Read chapters 21-24, of Joshua.

The book of Joshua is believed to take place between the years 1400 BC and 1100 BC. It begins immediately following the death of Moses, with the Israelites preparing to enter the Promised Land. God is in control!

JoshuaJoshua 21-24: Our journey begins with Joshua delivering the cities and pasturelands promised to Levites. Remember the Levites performed the sacrifices to God in accordance with God’s law in their respective communities. They were given no inheritance as the other tribes were. With the fighting concluded Joshua releases the tribes of the East to return to their home. A dispute erupts between the two-and-one-half tribes of the East, and the nine-and-one-half tribes of the West, when the Eastern tribes build an altar that the western tribes took as idol worship. A conference was convened where it was discovered that the altar was built to remind the western tribes not to ignore the tribes of the East. All was reconciled and war between the tribes of the East and the West was averted. Joshua is winding down his leadership over Israel. Joshua summons all the tribes to admonish them to continue serving the Lord. While Joshua and the other elders lived, the children of Israel honored their pledge to the Lord. (Joshua 21:1-24:33)

Read chapters 21 through 24, and ask yourself these questions: Throughout today’s reading, how do you see that God is in control? How do the Israelites recognize that God is in control of what is to happen? Do you see God’s control in your life?
