DAY 306: JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR
Today, we continue our journey through the book of Ecclesiastes and finding meaning in life.
Ask the Lord for His understanding of Ecclesiastes 3-4. Read Ecclesiastes 3-4. Let’s journey!
It is not known for certain who wrote the book of Ecclesiastes, however, many believe it to be King Solomon. The book of Ecclesiastes looks for the meaning of life and warns that we should be careful of what we try and use to find meaning in life. Life is temporary and fleeting, with its pleasure short-lived. The book sets out to answer the question of how we should live our life?
Ecclesiastes 3-4: Solomon notes that there is a time for everything in life, ordained by God, and it cannot be changed. Solomon looks at oppression and notes that neither the oppressor nor the oppressed are happy. Work and wealth do not bring happiness, nor does being alone. Solomon then concludes that power and privilege do not bring meaning to life. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-4:16)
After concluding today’s reading, consider the following: What wisdom does the book offer about how to live life? What does the author try to find meaning in life? What is the result? How have you tried to find meaning in your life? What have you learned?
