DAY 320: JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR

Today, we continue our journey through the book of Ecclesiastes and finding meaning in life.

Ask the Lord for His understanding of Ecclesiastes 7-8. Read Ecclesiastes 7-8.  Let’s journey!

EcclesiastesIt is not known for certain who wrote the book of Ecclesiastes, however, many believe it to be King Solomon.  The book of Ecclesiastes looks for the meaning of life and warns that we should be careful of what we try and use to find meaning in life.  Life is temporary and fleeting, with its pleasure short-lived.  The book sets out to answer the question of how we should live our life?

Ecclesiastes 7-8: Today’s journey begins by looking at wisdom.  Wisdom comes from experiences, sometimes painful experiences.  Learning from those experiences produces wisdom, which is better to gain than focusing on only the good and pleasurable.  Wisdom comes only from the Lord and a wise man fears the Lord and obeys Him.  Living completely for others will not bring meaning into life.  Enjoy what has been given to you by the Lord.  (Ecclesiastes 7:1-8:17)

After concluding today’s reading, consider the following: What wisdom does the book offer about how to live life?  What does the author try to find meaning in life? What is the result?  How have you tried to find meaning in your life?  What have you learned?
