Focus Verse For Today: Hosea 7:11
Today our journey through the Bible in a year takes us to Hosea chapters 1-7. Hosea was the only prophet in the Northern Kingdom, of Israel.
Ask the Lord for His understanding of Hosea 1-7. Read Hosea 1-7. Let’s journey!
Hosea 1-7: Today’s reading is a reflection of our culture today. It shows a people who do not want to serve their God, but rather a people who want to create their God. Israel had become a people that only reflected on the God that served their purpose, not totally forsaking Him, but setting aside His commandments which they chose not to obey. (Hosea 1:1-7:16)
Our focus verse for today:
“Ephraim is like a dove,
easily deceived and senseless—
now calling to Egypt,
now turning to Assyria.
(Hosea 7:11, NIV)
In life, only one choice a person makes matters. That’s right, in life only one choice a person makes matters. Once more, in life only one choice a person makes matters. That choice is to accept or reject Jesus as their personal savior. The Northern Kingdom, Israel, wanted the God of Israel, provided He didn’t interfere with their desire to serve false gods and submit themselves to a life devoted (worshipping) sin. In life only one choice which a person makes matters. Choosing Jesus means submitting ourselves to a life that promotes His mission, spreading the Gospel, and living a life that is pleasing to God. Today’s culture is self-centered: our self-centeredness makes us blind. Our self-centeredness has us seeking to find ourselves, like the dove in today’s focus verse, in all the wrong places. In submitting to and serving Jesus, we are no longer like the dove in today’s focus verse, for we are found. In serving Jesus, we find ourselves.
