Steven T. Smith was executed by the state of Ohio on May 1, 2013. He was pronounced dead at 10:29 am EDT, inside the execution chamber at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Mansfield, Ohio, Steven was 46 years of age. Steven was executed for the brutal rape and murder of 6-month-old Autumn Breeze Carter on September 29, 1998, in Mansfield, Ohio.  Autumn was the daughter of his live-in girlfriend, 

As a child, Steven was physically abused, until his mother remarried. Steven had a history of alcohol abuse and was black-out drunk when he committed his crime. He had started drinking at a young age. Steven was unemployed at the time of his crime and watched Autumn and her sister while their mother worked.
