Texas carried out the execution of Arthur Brown on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Arthur was pronounced dead at 6:37 pm local time, inside the Walls Unit of the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. He was 52 years of age. Arthur is convicted of murdering four people on June 20, 1992. Thirty-two-year-old Jose Guadalupe Tover, 19-year-old Jessica Quinones, 21-year-old Audrey Brown, and 17-year-old Frank Farias were murdered inside Jose’s home in Houston, Texas. Arthur spent the last 29 years of his life on death row in Texas.
Arthur was born in Los Angeles, California. His mother drank while she was pregnant with him. Arthur did not graduate high school, dropping out after the 11th grade. Before his arrest, Arthur worked as a laborer.
Jose and Rachel Tovar were married drug dealers in Houston, Texas. They often supplied marijuana and cocaine to other drug dealers, including Arthur Brown. On June 19, 1992, Brown drove from Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Houston, Texas. Marion Dudley, Antonio Dunson, and Maliek Travis traveled with him.
The group arrived in Houston the following morning. That evening, Brown, Dudley, add Dunson went to the Tovar residence to buy drugs. Instead, they bound up the six people in the home using bed sheets. The six people were identified as Jose and Rachel Tover, Rachel’s son Frank Farias, Rachel’s seven-month pregnant daughter-in-law Jessica Quinones, Rachel’s friend Nicholas Cortez, and neighbor Audrey Brown. Only Rachel and Audrey survived the shooting. They were able to identify the three men who attempted to kill them.
Following the murders, Arthur Brown allegedly confessed what he had done to his sister. He then left Texas, along with the others. Dudley and Dunson were arrested in Fayetteville, North Carolina on July 8, 1992. Brown was arrested in Northport, Alabama on October 23, 1992. Brown’s three sisters testified against him, however, they allege that they were coerced.
Brown and Dudley were sentenced to death in separate trials. Dudley was executed in on January 25, 2006. Dunson received a life sentence and will be eligible for parole in 2027.
