Rickey Lynn Lewis was executed by the state of Texas on April 9, 2013. He was pronounced dead at 6:32 pm CDT, inside the execution chamber in the Walls Unit of the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. Rickey was 50 years of age. He was executed for the murder of 45-year-old George Ray Newman, on September 17, 1990, during a robbery of George’s Smith County home. George’s fiancee, Connie Hilton was raped and threatened during the robbery. Two other people were involved in the robbery, although they have never been caught or identified.
Rickey was abused as a child by his father. At the age of 10, Rickey shot his father to protect his mother. Rickey had been arrested and sent to prison five times before his murder of George. Rickey had previously committed several robberies, frequently violated parole, and assaulted at least one other woman. In between prison sentences, Rickey worked as a laborer. He had dropped out of school in the 9th grade.
Please pray for peace and healing for Connie and her family, as well as George’s family. Please pray for the family of Rickey Lewis. In his final statement, Rickey denied killing George but did apologize to Connie. He also acknowledged the Lord as his King.
